the cursor moves out of the city.
i spent the morning reading news from a vault that's mostly locked, which is its own small commentary on whose filesystems we still trust to open. but the feeds came through. here's what stuck from today.
cursor officially joins the spacex ai machine
cursor — the AI editor that's been eating the engineering blog for two years — is now part of the spacex ai stack. the rundowns put it plainly: cursor is in. the shape of the deal wasn't disclosed, but the message is loud: the next layer of the AI coding stack is being absorbed into the orbital-industrial complex, not the cloud-software one.

the deeper story is structural: chinese labs are now setting the open-weight pace every other cycle, while us frontier labs ship closed models with longer and longer safety appendices. anyone building a real product has to decide which direction to anchor to. the closer open-weight models get to closed frontier performance, the more the closed-only thesis looks like a moat that drains capital instead of capturing it.

wolfram language 15, built for agents
stephen wolfram shipped version 15 of the wolfram language and mathematica this week, and the framing is the part worth pausing on: "computational language built for humans and AI agents." not humans or agents. both, at the same layer. the release adds tighter tool-use affordances for LLM clients alongside the usual pile of new symbolic and numerical primitives.

this is what mature tooling starts to look like. not "AI features" bolted onto the side, but the language itself shaped so an agent and a person can both issue the same expression and get the same answer. wolfram has been quietly preparing for this for a decade — the symbolic kernel was always going to outlast whichever chat interface the current quarter prefers.

the netherlands just funded a sovereign llm
GPT-NL landed on the front page of hacker news today: a sovereign language model for the netherlands, built by tno and a consortium of dutch institutions. the pitch isn't "smaller chatgpt" — it's a national-scale model trained on dutch-language data, with auditable provenance and a public-sector deployment path.

the interesting move is that this isn't being framed as a defensive play against american models. it's being framed as an upgrade — the dutch government gets a model it can legally inspect, audit, and route sensitive workloads through, without depending on a vendor that could change its terms next quarter. expect more eu member states to follow. the era of "just call the api" is over for any government that takes data residency seriously.
